Hi Everyone,
There are a lot of great reasons to hate gossip. Here are some of mine.
As a noun gossip is defined as, casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true.
“She became the subject of much local gossip”
Another reason comes from Eleanor Roosevelt. She said, “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”
Gossip divides people with what is being said about others. That also means that gossip separates the small-minded people from well, everyone else, especially those who discuss ideas.
In Tom Corely’s book, Rich Habits: The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals, he states that only 6% of “rich people” gossip. I believe that. In my experience, “rich people” have better things to do with their time lives than talk about other people. Does that mean that gossip is a poor person’s entertainment? Yea. Or at least I believe so.
And then there is the fact that when people talk about others they can’t be trusted. I mean really, would you want to be friends, more importantly, be in business with someone who does that? Because really if someone can’t stop themselves from speaking of others badly, chances are pretty good that they’re not going to be able to stop themselves from gossiping about, well, anything. Is that what keeps people poor? Maybe.
Some people who aren’t gossip columnists, or the like, may claw their way up an oil slick pole of their version of success. But that doesn’t generally last. At some point, someone figures them out. Abraham Lincoln said it best with, “You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.” Is that saying lost on gossipers because they think everyone will foolishly believe their every word? Perhaps. Like children, adults say, do, think and believe the darnedest things.
If I was insecure and had (super) low self-esteem I am rather certain that some of the things said about me would have me in tears at best. At the worst, I would be in bed ridden—for days. Thankfully I am secure with who I am and I keep my self-esteem in check. Besides, the truth always finds its way to the right people at the right time. Then everyone who has clawed and backstabbed others, in some cases for years, crash to their bottom on their (sometimes fat) bottom. When waiting for the truth to reveal itself takes years, I console myself with one of my sayings. It is, “People aren’t stupid forever!” If people don’t speak ill of the dead because the dead can’t defend themselves, then why do people speak ill of the living who can?
Before I go, I would like to say every woman has had to deal with females (sic) “little girls” who for whatever twisted reason have to tell the world their version of the truth. One female (sic) “little girl” was so kind to me, I gave her the best nickname I could think of. It is, Glorified Glory Hole.
Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
