Hi Everyone,
The book, Before I Go To Sleep, by S J Watson, lead me to watch three movies and now I am wondering if I am the only one paying attention. This is what I mean.
How the book came into my possession is still a mystery. If I remember correctly, then I found it sitting in a box on a sidewalk with some other books during one of my random #6walks but who really knows. I get books from so many places.
Shortly after I discovered S J Watson’s internationally bestselling book I put it in my, “to be read” pile. After a few months I considered reading it, then donating it. Fiction hasn’t really been my thing since my early twenties. The day before I was going to donate it, I saw it in one of the free papers so I kept it. Just before I was going to donate it again, I saw someone reading it and I again kept it. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. It is a pager-turner.
I enjoyed the book so much that I stopped reading it during the climax so I could finish it the next morning. I was not disappointed. Since I knew there was a movie I borrowed a copy from the library.
When I told my daughter about, Before I Go To Sleep, she mentioned the movie, 50 First Dates, so I borrowed a copy of that. A quick online search lead me to the movie, Memento, so I borrowed that too. In a few days I had all three movies and I could hardly wait to see them.
The first movie I watched was, 50 First Dates, because life was getting in the way of my happiness. I thought a fun-loving light movie would change my frame of mind. And it did. I was getting back to my happy place and I stayed there until I starting asking myself just which movie I watching. Then I was pissed off.
The next night I decided to see what, Before I Go To Sleep, was like. In the first thirty seconds I noticed two things that differed from the book. I thought okay, but after three minutes I knew it wasn’t going to be like the book and I was right. It wasn’t. In my opinion, the only thing the book and the movie have in common is the title and the names of the characters. Great. A few days later I watched Memento. It requires one’s full attention, so I re-watched it the next night.
Before I Go To Sleep, is an excellent book, a page-turner and I highly recommend it. You will be pleasantly surprised only if you haven’t seen 50 First Dates, watched Memento and have no intention of watching, Before I Go To Sleep. And that’s all I am going to say.
