Hi Everyone,
Sometimes fiction nails it. This is what I mean.
The line was long and slow moving when I went to order my coffee. After a few minutes, I started to wonder who I could negotiate with to hold my spot while I went to the ladies’ room. The people behind the counter really looked like they were going as fast as they could. But it didn’t matter. I checked the time. Groan. Even though I wanted a coffee, I didn’t want to be rushing or to be late. How long do I wait in line?
Determined to have my coffee I decided to wait. Now with only two people ahead of me, I pulled out my free coffee card. It really bugs me when people have stood in line for Buddha knows how long and they are clueless as to what they want AND they aren’t even remotely ready with a form of payment. With my coffee card in hand a friendly employee asks me a question. The next thing I know, I have left the line, my coffee has been ordered and it was being made before I reached the counter. Grateful to have my coffee and nearing the door, I thanked the employee. She was amazing. Where was she last week when I had to leave the line because I was going to be late?
I had a good to great experience ordering my coffee that time. It was one of a handful. Waiting in line is not my thing. Cashiers aren’t always the friendliest, and the majority of them move slower than molasses on a cold Canadian day! I am serious. Watch. If at first you don’t succeed, watch again. It shouldn’t take more than twice for me to prove my point. Most cashiers aren’t even striving for mediocrity! If they were, they would behave differently.
Some of them always look like their job is sucking the life out them. Sorry sister, from another mister, but your behaviour is sucking the life out of ME! Being around negative, unproductive and perhaps lazy people makes me negative. I get it—you hate your job. For all I know you probably hate your life too! Try smiling. I hear you use less muscles than frowning.
No one is getting any younger and my standing in line is unproductive time. No one is paying me to wait in line. Realistically, I am paying twice. First, I am paying with my money and then I am paying with my time, which is money. If you are okay with that, then okay. But I am not.
Like the character Janey, in Candace Bushnell’s novel, Trading Up, I too, have noticed other customers in line, the behaviour of cashiers and the cleanliness of stores. At first it made me laugh out loud. Then I realized that, Trading Up, is considered to be an older book. Some cashiers have always behaved in that negative way. And the said truth is, some always will.
How long you want to wait in line is up to you. I know how long I will. There are a lot of stores that I will no longer shop in because the calibre of the staff and the customers just aren’t worth my time or my sanity.
Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
P.S. If you liked, or loved the TV show, Sex In The City, read Trading Up. It is also by Candace Bushnell. I highly recommend it!
