Hi Everyone,
I know that I am not the only person who has seen what I call, “The Sidewalk Strip Show”. This is what I mean.
One day in February of this year, as I walking from an appointment, I saw this young woman on the sidewalk on the other side of the street. It was clear from her stride that she was angry about something. The more she walked, the more aggressive her gait became. After a few seconds she began raising her voice until she was yelling. She was by herself. I didn’t see a cell phone, or ear buds.
Her arms were moving quickly as if she was trying to catch something fragile in the air, something I could not see from across the street. The next thing I know, she reaches for her hat, throws it on the snowy sidewalk, stomps on it, and grinds her heel into it before she pulls at her coat. Once she has opened it, she rips her mitts off both her hands. They are tossed into the air to land behind her. The whole time this young woman is taking her clothes off, she is yelling, screaming, ranting and her voice gets louder with every word. I ducked into a building just after she tore the blanket off of her shoulders. I later saw it sitting on a bench. I don’t know what happened to her yet I am rather certain that she was on something. This happened in Canada. February is cold. People don’t just take their clothes off in winter for no reason.
A few weeks ago, as I was waiting for a street car I see another young woman walking on the other side of street. Everything about her looked presentable, you know, she had clean, up-to-date clothes on, her hair looked nice, clean runners and a really nice hand bag. Yet somehow I knew there was, let’s say, a bit more going on. Unfortuantely I was correct.
Her body started to gyrate as she tried to maintain her balance. The hand bag was the first thing to land on the sidewalk. The next was this thing that looked like a chop stick that she used in her hair. She ripped her sweat-shirt like top off. At this point everyone, including the drivers, have stopped to see what she will do next. Her body continued to gyrate as she screamed to the one cloud she wasn’t on. For whatever reason, a tiny, old and frail looking woman pulling a bundle buggy asked her why she was taking her clothes off. She replied, “Because I am fucking hot okay?” And that was when she lifted her bra and shook her breasts for everyone to see. A few seconds later she pulled her bra down only to do it again, and well, again.
The older lady kept walking, the drivers put their cars in motion, the young woman put her top on, then took it off and put it back on. The street car arrived and I could not wait to get away from her. And yes, she was still on the other side of the street.
Later that night I was walking on Yonge Street and I saw her sitting by herself on the patio of a popular restaurant drinking vodka straight from a 40 pounder talking to herself. She was fully dressed, her hair was styled with the chopstick yet I have no idea where her hand bag was.
I wrote this blog because there are a lot of people who have seen a verison of, “The Sidewalk Strip Show” and they are no longer shocked. I don’t know if people take their clothes off because they are off their medications, on one of more drugs or are on their medications and on one or more drugs. Whatever it is, people need to know that this is happening and I am not cool with it.
Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
