Hi Everyone,
If there was only one thing I could say about, The Disaster Artist, it would be that, both the book and the movie are fantastic!! Since I can say more, I will. This is what I mean.
The first time I read, The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made, by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell was in early 2015. The second time was in early 2016. Each time not only did I laugh out loud (in mostly the same spots) only to have people look at me suspiciously, I also had to remind myself that I was reading a true account of Greg’s life and friendship with Tommy Wiseau. I am telling you this because, The Disaster Artist, is a non-fiction that reads like a fiction. It is that good. And at times very unbelievable. How, The Room, became a cult classic that is still screened all over the world, is also unbelievable. It is quite the story that in my opinion can only be fully understood by reading, The Disaster Artist.
I tried to buy the movie, The Room, at Christmastime in 2015 from HMV and then online but it wasn’t available. Since it is a very popular movie, the person helping me at HMV told me where I could see it. Back then it was screened once a month. The first time I saw, The Room, was in late 2015 and the second time was about two months later. The only reason I could see it was because there were so many disappointed people who didn’t make it into the sold-out screening that the theatre, that didn’t want to lose any money, opened a second theatre and showed it a few minutes later. And that was almost sold out too! Two showings in one night is not unusual.
Although A LOT of people at the theatre knew about, The Room, no one that I spoke to knew about the book, The Disaster Artist. When I mentioned it to someone in line, they looked at me like I was making it up as I was going along. It was weird. The book is, as I mentioned above, fantastic!
In my opinion, it is better to read the book first, see, The Room, and then watch, The Disaster Artist. It is a great movie that has as many elements of the book as it can for the length it is. But remember, The Disaster Artist, movie is based on the making of the movie, The Room. It is only based on the book, The Disaster Artist to the parts that pertain to, The Room. There is so much more. The back-story of how everything came about is almost as unbelievable as the success of, The Room itself.
Merry Christmas everyone. Have a safe and happy holiday and thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
