Hi Everyone,
If your mind when reading the title of today’s blog went sideways, get a hold of yourself. It’s not that kind of book. This is what I mean.
The title, On My Knees, only reflects the book because there is a chapter with the same name. For weeks I have been trying to think of another title for this great memoir, but I can’t. Periel’s first book is called, The Only Bush I Trust Is My Own, so maybe this is the only title that works. The title is deceiving. The book is deceptively funny. But Periel nailed the saying, “Honesty is the best policy.”
Periel is an excellent writer. She uses techniques that many writers do not. And she is hilarious! If you don’t believe me, then maybe you will believe a review. On My Knees, is described as, “Bold, sassy, and totally f*cking cool. If truth in comedy is my mantra, then the goddess I pray to is Periel Aschenbrand.”—Lesly Arfin, author of Dear Diary and senior writer for Girls.
Still not convinced? Here is review #2. “Periel Aschenbrand is funny, funny, funny. On My Knees is as cool book; made me laugh, made me think, made me keep turning the pages. If you don’t buy and read it and dig it, you’re making a mistake.”—James Frey
From all of the great lines my favourites are,
1) “There are few things sexier than a man who has nothing to prove.” True!
2) “I have never been the jealous type.” I really liked that one because I can’t remember the last time I have been jealous. I think, and have thought for decades, that jealousy is (really) stupid.
3) “This is a crock of shit the proportions of which I can hardly begin to articulate.” So yea, she’s got grey matter that never stops moving.
4) “Your job is to….” Okay, that isn’t the full sentence but when I read it, some people instantly came to mind.
Would I read, The Only Bush I Trust Is My Own? Yes!!
(Periel, if you, or someone you know is reading this blog, I would like your mother to know that I LOVED this book. Thank you.)
And thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
