Hi Everyone,
Since this blog came about because of a conversation, I would not be surpised if you answered yes. This is what I mean.
People have been going to dough nut shops for decades. I did it when I was growing up. That was partly because from the handful of Tim Horton’s in Ontario, one was very close to my high school. But here is the thing, no one ever sat, hung around the Tim Horton’s for any great length of time. Every time I or anyone that I knew went there they would get their order, sit for a bit, and then leave. There wasn’t a sign or employees suggesting people stay 20 minutes or less. We didn’t need one. We had a life.
So is that why people hang around for as long as they do? Is it because they don’t have a life? I am guessing that has to be the answer, because if they had a life they wouldn’t be there for as long as they are.
Look, I get it. Tim Horton’s is inexpensive, there are a lot of them around so it is easy to get to one and meet people and their hours are pretty good too. But here is the thing, few people leave after 20, 30 or even 60 minutes. Some people, stay there all day! For the ones that are open 24/7/365 some people stay all night, or close to it even when they have a home, or a place to stay. That is ridculous.
Not only do people not leave, they leave a HUGE mess! You know there is no reason for employees to have to pick up after people. There are a lot of able-bodied people who could put their garbage or recycling away. Everyone could use a bit of exercise. Walk you bottom to the bin people! Your body will thank you for it.
Again, here is the thing, because people don’t pick up after themselves, people, like myself, don’t want to go to Tim Horton’s. I also don’t want to see people slouching, or sleeping at tables in the middle of the day! Would you? It happens all the time! And few Tim Horton’s are exempt.
The Tim Horton’s on Yonge Street across from the Eaton’s Centre has got to be the worst! The only time I go to that one is when my bladder is screaming. After I walk past all the panhandlers to get in, I have to walk past the people surrounded by debris and who look like they are half dead only to find someone sitting on the floor of the stall beside me, massaging the floor first with their right hand, then their left. For anyone who is interested, I am of the belief that the family bathroom at the Yonge Street location is out of order because people were shooting up in it and messed up the plumbing when they tried to flush the needles. Yes, you read that correctly, drug users and drug abusers try to flush their needles down the toilet even when there is a Needle Drop Box!! I feel sorry for the owner and the staff. Anyway…
I said that this blog came about because of a conversation and it is true. When I was speaking with someone, they said that someone they knew sold 4 of his 5 Tim Horton’s. The reason was, “it was like day care”. And I believe them. Try asking someone to leave a Tim Horton’s and you have at least half the place protesting before they buy them something so they can stay another 3 hours.
I could go on, but I am getting close to my writing time limit and I have a life to get to.
Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
