Megxit

All I have been hearing about is Megxit and I have a few thoughts on that. This is what I mean.

Few people liked being talked about in a negative way and followed around.  I like my privacy so I get how other people liked theirs too. People do all kinds of things to protect themselves. I stay out of the spotlight, which for me is to post a blog every once in a while, take a picture or two for Instagram and tweet one or more things that do not include a blog or a picture. All of the above are generally pretty basic, you know boring, low key. What I am saying is I try to stay on people’s minds without screaming in their face. Which, in my opinion, is kind of what Harry and Megan are doing.

If they wanted to be low-key, stay out of the spotlight that they say they are trying to stay out of, they would have. Like they would have clearly stated something along the lines of, Hi Canada! We would love to live here 6 months of the year because you guys and gals are AWESOME!!! And because everyone here is so AWESOME we don’t want you guys to worry about a thing. We are going to provide, that also means pay for, our own security, and whatever else the average Canadian person pays for and we really want to contribute to society. You know kind of like pay for our keep, so to speak, without dipping into the Canadian coffers. But they didn’t do that.

Instead they waited until today, which is Wednesday January 15th, 2020, 5-7 days after they announced that they wanted to live in Canada 6 months out of the year, to say that they will pay for their security. But who knows if they really will or not. As of yesterday’s poll 73% of Canadians are opposed to paying for their security. There is a petition to NOT pay for their security and probably anything else, so staying out the lime-light was an epic fail.

Maybe Megan thought she could she turn things around by making a (supposed) spontaneous visit to a women’s shelter. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is great that she went to a women’s shelter but I don’t think it was spontaneous. A lot of women’s shelters screen visitors and she would have to be cleared for that. You can’t just show up. Do I have to remind everyone that she took a sea plane to get there? And am I the only one who thinks the women in the picture from the shelter looked a little too clean? Their clothes, hair and nails were clean, tidy. In my experience, and I live in a funky part of Toronto with drop-in centres right down the street, women in shelters do not look that put together. Not one of them looked like they were addicts or in recovery.

I get that the people there would like to have a picture with Megan but if someone wants to be low-key, live under the radar, why give it to the Canadian press when the reason for leaving England was too much press? And why post anything about Megan on Facebook? Since I am editing this blog, I would like to add that Megan has been out-and-about and more pictures are circulating.

For people who don’t want attention, they sure are making the world look at them whether the world wants to or not.
