Hi Everyone,
I really enjoyed the movie, Ingrid Goes West, and I highly recommend it. This is why.
The main character, Ingrid, played by Aubrey Plaza, is desperate for at least one person to like her enough to a allow her into their life. In an effort to find a friend, Ingrid begins to follow an Instagram star, Taylor Sloane, before she moves to LA. While there Ingrid not only has a series of what I call Bright Ideas, she acts on them. Remember Ingrid is desperate so she will do almost anything to constantly obtain and then retain Taylor’s fleeting attention.
Taylor and her husband, Ezra, do what so many people do. They embrace Ingrid, thereby becoming faster than fast friends without ever getting to know Ingrid and she loves it. Everything in Ingrid’s world goes along well, until Ingrid meets Nicky, Taylor’s brother whom Taylor loves more than her husband. It is now that things get what I call really funky.
Nicky is shady, calls Ingrid, Olga and is despised by Ezra, Taylor’s husband. Ingrid, still desperate to be a part of Taylor’s life convinces her landlord Dan, now boyfriend, to go a party at a mansion hosted by Nicky and his girlfriend. It is at the party that everyone begins to show who they truly are by the lengths that they go to protect themselves. Everyone’s dire need for some kind of a connection to escape their loneliness increases their loneliness.
It is only when Ingrid is her true, authentic self that she gets what, one could say, she always craved. She even gets her own hashtag, #iamingrid
People can change their job, hair colour, or even as Ingrid, where they live yet it will not change who they truly are. The only way to change yourself, is to change yourself, from the inside out.
Aubrey Plaza is great in every scene because she is in every scene! Ingrid Goes West, is funny, relatable, and as unpredictable as it is predictable. It is also underrated. It took me over a month to get a copy transferred to my local library because everyone was watching it. Again, I highly recommend it.
Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant!
