Movie–The Pursuit of Happyness

Hi Everyone,

If you haven’t heard of or seen the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, I highly recommend that you watch it. I know that it has been out for a while and that the movie was based on Gardner’s’ memoir with the same title. I heard the back story on several talk shows just before and after the movie came out. I just never thought to see the movie until a few weeks ago when I spotted it sitting on a cart at the library. I am glad I finally watched it. This is why.

The Pursuit of Happyness is a rags-to-riches story of a soon-to-be single father. It has every obstacle known to mankind when mankind is not kind to his fellow man. It is a movie of the inner and outer struggles that many people face as they try to reach their seemingly unreachable goals. It is uncommon because few people, in my opinion, go to the lengths that Chris Gardner did. Few people lack the support system that he did and still make it, still reach their version of the American dream. The movie is humbling.

Unlike a lot of movies, this one follows the book very closely. The true Chris Gardner is said to have been on set for almost all of the filming. Apparently, he even gave Will Smith, who plays him, in the movie, and the Director, Gabriele Maccino, some direction while on set too.

The reason for today’s blog is two-fold. One is inspire anyone who is having a hard time reaching their goals and is ready to give up. Don’t! When no one is willing to help you as you are desperately trying to help yourself, keep at it! Maybe those unhelpful people just aren’t meant to be in your life any more. Maybe they never were. Maybe this is your wake-up call to move past them. If you don’t know what I mean, go to the library and borrow the movie. It explains a lot. The second fold is for tomorrow’s blog.
