Hi Everyone,
Free is one of my favourite words. I love free stuff and free stuff has saved me A LOT of money.
If there is something free that I know that I, or someone I know, will use I get as much as I can. If I can use it I keep it for myself unless I get an abundance, then I spread the wealth so to speak. If I mean to get something for someone else, I give it to them. Free is my friend and my friends like free too. ;D
So when I was low on shampoo and conditioner and didn’t want to buy any, I was thrilled when someone gave me a full-sized bottle of both PLUS a full-sized bottle of hair serum! All three were just what I needed. Or so I thought.
The first time I used all three products EXACTLY as the instructions suggested, I thought, “Okay”. Maybe the free stuff wasn’t exactly what I wanted or needed but they were okay. And at the time, okay was better than nothing. A week went by and I used all three products again. Once again, my response was, “Okay,” but I could feel a difference.
When I went for a trim, the stylist said my hair was dry. I agreed. My roots were showing but the stylist didn’t say anything even though I knew he could see them. I coloured my hair with my usual colour a few days later and my hair felt drier. A few days after that, I went back to my usual hair mask. And a few days after that I used the free stuff–all three products.
The weather got colder, the heat was put on in my apartment and I was at home more with dry air that I swore was drying out my hair. I also started experimenting with new hair products and styling tools. Every day my hair got drier. I put more products in my hair, like my hair mask, a serum and the the free serum. But my hair just got drier every day.
Desperate I asked the Cosmetic Manager at my local Shoppers Drug Mart to feel my hair and offer me a suggestion. “Put some olive oil in your hair, my hair dresser told me it works”. I did and my hair felt better. But I still didn’t know exactly why my hair felt so dry so I went and used all the serums I had in stock. My hair felt worse.
So today, I reviewed my calendar to find out when I got the free stuff. It was over two months ago! AND I have spent a small fortune on products to get my hair back to where it was before BUT I am still have a long way to go. I will end up spending more money on my hair, smelling olive oil and lying an old towel on my pillow for the next month or more. I will also need to get A LOT of my hair cut, something I don’t want to do since I am trying to grow it out.
Ironically, I saw a show today where a woman got a great deal on hair colour and lost the majority of her hair from it! I think she said it burnt off her head!
From all of the free stuff that I have acquired over the years, this is the only time where it has cost me money. Sometimes free has a price!
I am not happy about it, BUT I am still very thankful that I have hair. 🙂
