Hi Everyone,
If the horse meat scandal in Europe has you thinking about what is REALLY in the food you eat, here is some more food for thought. (Pun intended! ;D )
Okay well, I will start off with Kenya. So horse meat was being passed off as beef for God knows how long in Europe. It was reported yesterday that Kenya has its own set of problems with donkey meat being passed off as beef. It has gotten so bad that farmers who use donkeys to help them with their farms and varying forms of transportation now have to lock them at night because their donkeys are being stolen. Some farmers believe their donkeys are being stolen for their meat. Yesterday was a big day, off to England.
Now, England has its own set of problems with eggs. Apparently, organic eggs aren’t really organic. Go figure. I think that farmers have been passing off whatever products they produce as organic when they aren’t for years!
You have to admit, it would be kind of easy to do that. This is especially true since ALL organic foods are allowed to have a certain amount of pesticides and anti-biotics. The level of pesticides and anti-biotics used depends on what is being farmed, or in this case, (eggs) produced.
Off to China now. KFC in China is going to cut 1,000 chicken farms from its distribution channel because of the VERY high levels of anti-biotics. Mutli-national corporations in China are the low hanging fruit, so it is predicted that it will take 3-6 months for KFC to recover from this scandal. Personally I think it would take A LOT LONGER. This is why.
There are three things that the Chinese value the most in life. Here they are in order.
1) Health
2) Education
3) Food Safety
Health is #1.
When a Chinese woman, who only eats at KFC 2-3 times a month, was interviewed, she said that would NEVER, EVER, eat at KFC again. I think it might have something to do with the Chinese placing their health as their number one priority.
It is predicted, (and I agree) that the Chinese will gravitate to their own fast food chains more and never leave them. The Chinese government has very high food safety standards, hence KFC changing their chicken farmers.
I am pretty sure that there will be more scandals in the coming days. Oh and the whole horsemeat scandal in Europe, well it was traced back at least a year in some countries.
