Privatization

Hi Everyone,

Privatization is when public services are sold to companies, which then in turn allows them to decide the amount that we should pay for things. Examples of things that are being or considered to be privatized are hydro, water, medical services, like doctors, hospitals etc. liquor boards, transportation, our food, infrastructure and anything else that can be bought.

This plays out in our own backyards and around the world and it is not pretty. If you live in the GTA,(Greater Toronto Area) then think of highway 407. Sure for the most part there aren’t a lot of cars so the traffic is light. The reason is that it is not only expensive, but there are also a lot of commuters who were overcharged for using the distance based highway who don’t use it anymore, something that if the government had enough money to pay for, would be free.

If you thought that things are bad now, they are only going to get worse! It is the fiscal responsibility for all companies/corporations to provide for their shareholders. Because of that, all companies/corporations will do whatever it takes to do just that even if it is at our financial or physical expense. Those expenses, in my opinion, hinder our global economic growth.

Below are three links. The first is from one of my blogs called, The Corporation. The second link is for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. The page of this link goes directly to, Public Services and Privatization. The latest report/study dated January 24, 2013 is on infrastructure but there are more from each province or territory that is considering privatization.

The third link is for a documentary titled, The Big Sell-Out. It is 1:35:24 minutes in length and it does include the attempted water privatization in  Cochabamba, Bolivia, that was in, The Corporation, link found in the blog I posted on January, 30, 2013, (here’s the link, http://arebelsrant.com/the-corporation-links-d/)  titled, Why We Should Care More About Water.  ;D

In my opinion, public services should remain public. Sure privatization can look really good at first, but when we scratch the surface, the ugly truth is easy to see.
