Hi Everyone,
Tiff just didn’t do it for me this year. This is what I mean.
If I was one of the lucky to have season tickets aka a TIFF Membership Pass and had the time to cherry pick and then enjoy the movies I wanted to watch, TIFF would have been awesome! But I didn’t. Unlike the growing number of people who have that luxury, I had to try to find the time to try to watch at least one movie that didn’t involve some sort of war theme, drug addiction, or hate.
Yes there were a few movies that seemed light hearted, funny and for a lack of a better word, good, but when life is busy finding a movie at TIFF2018 to suit my needs and, yes my wants, I had a heck of a time.
One movie that I am still debating is, The Kindergarden Teacher. It was given a star rating of 5/5 and the trailer blew my mind! And yet, it is the whole how much time do I have to invest in going to and watching a movie?
When I found the book, Beautiful Boy, which is now a movie playing at TIFF, in the remainders section of Chapters ten years ago, I bought it and read it right away. But that was ten years ago. Now there are countless parents struggling with their part in their child’s drug use. It is so common that there are hundreds of YouTube videos of parents trading stories of what drug their child does, why they got into it, and how they tell everyone they plan on getting off of whatever they are on.
Has anyone walked on Yonge Street north of Richmond and south of College? I am asking because if you want to save some time and money, there are at least 20 people who for a few dollars, just enough to buy drugs, and in a few minutes can tell you their story. Drugs are now a new thread in the fabric of our lives and it is really hard to get the wrinkles out.
Hate, depending on the day, is everywhere.
Stories of war, refugees and violence are as common as counterfeit items at the Pacific Mall.
If drug users, stories of hate, war, refugees, and violence are more common than common sense why do filmmakers think people like me want to see those genres? I don’t.
The Kindergarden Teacher which is playing at TIFF tomorrow, has intrigued me. BUT it is the documentaries titled McQueen and Generation Wealth that have me wanting to see them at the Carlton Theatre, aka Imagine Cinemas. Sure I may only have 6 days to see them, but it is 6 days that affords me the luxury of seeing them with a bit of leaway.
I could go on, but I won’t.
Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
