Hi Everyone,
Since most New Year’s Resolutions revolve around saving (more) money, paying down credit card debt, and spending more time with family and friends I thought that I would share the best way to do that–get organized. 🙂
Not only will you not buy things that you already have, yet cannot find, thereby saving time re-buying things with money you want to save, you will also save yourself the frustration of looking for things thereby reducing your stress levels.
I know this because at one time I was what I would say compared to today, as being pretty unorganized. Granted my closets were more organized than most people that I knew, but I had a problem finding my keys. My looking for my keys was a complete waste of time that I had control of yet did not want to address. Now I have a spot for my keys and everything else. My life is much easier and less stressful.
But if I ever think that I need to get rid of some things, I watch a few episodes of Hoarders. Simply seeing how easy it is for clutter to accumulate has me getting rid of things while I am watching the show. A really good way to clear out and then organize closets is to paint them! I have a saying, “The best way to clean a closet is to paint a closet.” Trust me it works.
When I decided to paint my apartment, I painted everything including all the closet ceilings! Once everything was freshly painted, I planned where I was going to put what so that whatever was going to be easily accessed and ergonomically correct when I need to get at something.
This did not cost a lot of money. I just got creative by using what I already had and shopped at a dollar store for baskets, boxes etc.
Right now I have one small and one medium sized box, two small plastic bags and a small pile of papers that I need to go through. I chip away at them a little bit every week. I have no storage units nor am I storing things at anyone’s home or business.
Being unorganized and living in clutter have many negative effects on our health and our finances. I have been following the repercussions of being unorganized for years. To learn more about how being organized will help you, please watch this video on, “Too Much Stuff”. It aired last night on TVO’s The Agenda.
