Hi Everyone,
While I was on public transit the other day I noticed something I tend to forget about. This is easy since I do spend a lot of time at home, especially during the winter, but what I noticed happens all the time, rain or shine. This is what I mean. As I got on the public transit I saw two girls sitting across from me. They were talking, joking and having fun. Normal teenage stuff, you know. But then after a few minutes both of them stopped talking as they started to play with their cell phones, and placed their ear buds in their ears. They did that the WHOLE way.
Now I remember being that young and sitting on public transit with my girlfriend and all we did was TALK the WHOLE time. We talked about everything and we weren’t always quiet about it either. We discussed how long it would take to get to wherever, where we should go first, last and why. How much money we had, how much we would spend, why and where.
If there was a moment of silence between us, it was only because we had to stop for air! ;D
On the way home it was the same thing. Talk, talk, talk. It was non-stop. I am serious. But people don’t talk anymore. And I am serious about that too.
It’s not like they are reading something that requires some level of concentration. It’s not like they are writing something or even looking at a map or whatever.
People, whether they are on public transit, sitting in a car, sitting on a couch or even in the same room don’t talk to each other!
I talk to pretty much everyone ALL THE TIME. For anyone I don’t talk to well, there are reasons but that is a whole other blog. ;D Anyway…
I do talk to pretty much everyone ALL THE TIME. Even if it is a quick, “Good morning,” etc. to a stranger or a quick, “Hi,” as I race through a store, whatever, I talk. And sometimes I talk a lot too. ;D
So the question of the day is, how exactly do we now define a hermit. Is it someone who is out and about BUT doesn’t or very rarely speaks to anyone? Or is it someone who doesn’t always leave their dwelling BUT talks to pretty much everyone? I am opting for the former.
