Word On The Street

Hi Everyone,

Happy Friday! Here’s a bit of fun blog for book lovers of all ages. For anyone who doesn’t already know there is going to be a HUGE book fair in Toronto this weekend. It is called Word on the Street and it takes place once a year in varying cities across Canada. As I already mentioned, for Toronto, it is this weekend, Sunday September 22, 2013 and it is held at Queen’s Park between 11 am to 6 pm. It is HUGE. The whole street up to Queen’s Park and most of the surrounding streets will closed off for Word On The Street.

Personally I’ve been going to Word On The Street, for years and I LOVE it.  Not only do I get brand new books at DEEP DISCOUNTS, I also get FREE stuff. Since I LOVE FREE I have a great time. I used to take my daughter to it every year we could go and she loved it too! We used to get FREE, FREE, And FREE!!! But the FREE isn’t just for things.

There are authors who will read excerpts of their books and autograph them, there are free seminars, and free shows for all ages. So yes, that also includes the kids. In fact there is a whole section just for kids! It is huge. It is great. It is a lot of fun. Okay, all of Word On The Street is fun!

If you get hungry there are some AMAZING food trucks! If you are thirsty there are some AMAZING vendors for lemonade etc. And if you have to use the “facilities” there are portable bathrooms too.

When I go to Word On The Street, I get there early for all of the FREE stuff; check out all of major publishers like Random House, Simon and Schuster, Harper Collins, the other publishing houses and vendors as I slowly start to buy books that seem like there may be a scarcity of. Then after a few hours of walking, eating and scouring for information, because there is A LOT of that too, I go back to the publishing houses that caught my eye and start buying their books.

The thing is, the later it gets in the day, the cheaper the books become. Actually, I have purchased A LOT of brand new hard covers for between 2-5 dollars. And I did purchase Bethenny Frankel’s book, A Place of Yes, in trade paperback for $1 but it was worth so much more! That is one of many examples. Great read by the way!

Just to let everyone know, almost of the vendors take only cash so bring small coins, like loonies and twonies and small bills. Trust me, few people at Word On The Street, like to or can make change for a ten or twenty dollar bill.

So far it looks like Sunday September 22, 2013 looks like it will be an okay day weather wise, but from my experience, it always rains, so that’s your head’s up to bring an umbrella.

Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
