Hi Everyone,
For anyone who doesn’t know I had day surgery yesterday. Outside of feeling a bit of pain, I’m feeling great. If I do feel pain that I can’t manage, I have three prescriptions. The chances of my filling even one of them are highly unlikely, but who knows.
Prescription pills freak me out. If you don’t know what I mean, check out my blog called, The Perils of Prescription Pills. Here is the link, http://arebelsrant.com/the-perils-of-prescription-pills/ (The link for the video still works. Just scroll down the page until you see the green pills. Click on them and the video will start.)
Being the information junkie that I am, I asked as many questions as I could before and after the surgery. This is what I found out.
Apparently, there wasn’t enough fat on that body part for the surgeon to stitch me up properly. Since I had waited for that operation for about two months, I should have thought of gaining more weight beforehand.
Another thing I learned is that surgeons ask their patients a variety of questions to help them decide whether or not to perform a surgery. One question is, “Can you walk two blocks without losing your breath?” If the answer is no, and the surgery is elective the chances of you having the surgery done is nil. You will not be going under the knife. If answer is yes, then you get the operation.
If your operation is NOT elective, meaning that you have to have it, and you said no things will become (far) more complicated. Your need for more medical attention and medications will increase by whatever your surgeon deems necessary. More time waiting at the hospital or at the doctor’s office sounds like a huge waste of time to me. More medications sound like a huge waste of money to me too. Just saying.
Now one of the surgeons stated that there is a surplus of specialty doctors/surgeons for anyone with cardiac issues because there just aren’t enough operating rooms in Ontario. The wealth of my health is now more important than I thought.
Yesterday I walked to the hospital and it was more than two blocks. I was tempted to walk home but better judgment kicked in when I started to feel slightly woozy about 30 seconds from exiting the hospital.
I could have asked a variety of people to accompany me to the hospital and back but I like to feel like under the weather by myself. As long as I have everything that I need and think I may want I’m great. I’m a low-to-no- maintenance that way and I like that.
I didn’t even tell my Ex about the operation until Monday or Tuesday this week. He called me every day since and yesterday morning before I left for the hospital reminding me to call him when I arrived home. It is a nice feeling to know that someone cares. And I do admit to feeling as I call it, “needy” when I left him a message later in the day.
As Canadians we, like the Swiss, have an excellent health care system. But at the end of the day, my health is up to me, just as your health is up to you. My thinking is, if I do the best I can to stay healthy, the health care system will do its best to maintain my wealth of health. I just hope there is an operating room available if I need it.
I posted a blog called, Just How Healthy Are Vitamins? Here’s the link, http://arebelsrant.com/just-how-healthy-are-vitamins/ . You can find other health related blogs in the Wealth of Health category.
Have a great long weekend everyone and thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
