Hi Everyone,
It’s the weekend for most and that’s the time when people try to get more time consuming things done. This blog still applies if your weekend is during the week too though. This is what I mean.
Every night about an hour or two before I get ready for bed, I make my “to-do,” list for the next day. I do this so I can start to think about, plan, organize and prioritize things for the next day. After some thought, I may change the list by adding or subtracting some things from it. If I have some extra time after I have made my list I will start at least one thing for the next day. It could something as small as placing something where I will see it first thing in the morning, or beginning and completing something entirely.
The reason I make a, “to-do,” list is because some things get forgotten or never get completed the way that I would like. With my, “to-do,” list I hold myself accountable for my daily activities, my progress. Progress comes to a grinding halt when I have to react to instead of acting on life. Let’s face it, life is unpredictable. That is why my, “to-do,” list is important to me. It keeps me on track.
A few months ago, I found a few of my old, “to-do,” lists on my desk and didn’t like what I saw. Since then I have gotten into the habit of placing all of my daily, “to-do,” lists in an envelope. On Saturday morning, I look at the old lists, and review what I have and have not crossed off/accomplished for one day.
It’s surprising to discover how much or how little one can cram into 24 hours. But it is also a great way to stay on top of what I deem important to move me forward. I add as much of those undone things to my, “to-do,” list for Saturday, (the one I created on Friday night). This creates a sense of urgency. With a sense of urgency, the truly important things get done. Now if I fall behind, it’s my own damn fault!
