Hi Everyone,
The full title of today’s blog is, “I’m an educated man! I have a grade thirteen education!” I don’t know what you thought when you read the full title, but I thought the guy was a complete idiot! This is why.
Someone, in all of their wisdom, tried to intimidate me with their education. Now, I don’t know about you, but having a grade thirteen education is not really something to brag about. In fact, education has nothing to do with any level of intelligence—at all! Ever! And having a grade thirteen education doesn’t mean that someone hasn’t been “pushed through the system”. There are countless of people who have graduated high school, college, and university who can’t spell or read! But, their teachers have allowed them to “graduate” for the simple fact that if they didn’t, that person would be in school forever! Then there are schools that have been affectionately called, “Coconut College”. Now do I think, that is where Mr. “I’m an educated man!” graduated from? If you said, yes, then you are correct. I do. I also believe that he was, “pushed through the system,” of that school too!
For anyone who is interested, I have formal education. I have also been an avid reader of non-fiction books for decades, started watching 60 Minutes at the age of ten, and have watched documentaries on the human condition for more than half my life. I like to learn about people. So I can tell everyone, right now, that there are hundreds of thousands of people who have less than grade thirteen education but have accomplished far more than anyone could have imagined. Again, education, or lack thereof, has nothing to do with one’s level of intelligence! That also means that education, or lack thereof, has nothing to do with one’s level of success! There are multi-millionaires and multi-billionaires who did not finish high school! An example of this is Sir. Richard Branson.
He dropped out of high school at about age 16-17 and started Virgin Records. I can’t remember the whole story exactly, but I remember enough of it. Virgin Records was just the beginning of a global empire. Hmmm. It makes me wonder what would have happened had Sir Richard Branson stayed in high school. My thoughts are that he would have missed the opportunity of a lifetime. Sir Richard Branson has been a multi-billionaire for a long time. Mr. “I am an educated man!” is not! Currently, neither am I. But at least I work towards my goals. I can’t say the same for him. Another great story success story is below.
Years before I heard of a man, who despite his picking through garbage as a child, looking for anything recyclable he could find to sell, ended up making millions of dollars. I am serious. If I remember correctly, he and his family recycled plastic bags. At first he picked through the garbage to financially help his parents. Then after many years of applying his financial acumen, he began to support them. This man now has a growing empire. Not only does he fully support his family, he has thousands of employees who now support their families because they work for him.
Education, or lack thereof, has absolutely nothing to do with how intelligent someone is or what they will become! Life experiences, knowing one’s self, financial knowledge and self-confidence, are in my opinion, things that make the difference. Money does not make the man, the man makes the money. The same goes for education! So the next time, someone goes bragging on their level of education, take it with a grain of salt. They are probably an idiot! They are probably mental! In my opinion, he is both!
