Hi Everyone,
Every day, I do what I call, The Usual. It is the same every day and I build on, The Usual, every chance I get. This is why.
As I figure out better ways to do things, I just add more to my day. The caveat to this is that when I don’t always get everything done, The Usual must be done the next day. It’s the only way I keep myself in check, which to me is a form of discipline. One thing that I have added to, The Usual, is reading a chapter in a book on something new I am learning. I like this topic so it is not a hardship. The hardship was when I didn’t finish the chapter from the day before and decided to stick to, The (New) Usual.
My goal was to finish reading this book by a certain day. The only way for me to do that, without “messing” with, The (New) Usual, was to finish reading the chapter and read the next. I was okay with that. What I wasn’t okay with was one of my closets.
It is the one I open the most and I couldn’t stand looking at what I considered to be an unorganized and time-consuming, inefficient closet. Anytime I opened that closet, I would cringe. I tried to read, but that closet distracted me to the point that I just had to reorganize it.
Because I have been looking at the closet for weeks, I had reorganized it in my mind so many times that it took no time at all. I think it took less than 10 minutes for the twelve shelves, (five built in, and seven from shelving units) but I was on a roll so I reorganized a few other things in my closet just because.
Not only do I feel better, I am also more productive. Sure it was a bit of a distraction from my reading but it was worth it. Now when I open that closet I smile. Some distractions help us remain disciplined. So there is my confession on distractions vs. discipline that I blogged about yesterday. If you don’t know what I mean, here’s the link to yesterday’s blog, http://arebelsrant.com/distraction-vs-discipline/
The point of today’s blog is, if something bothers you enough to keep you from your goals, address it so you can get back to what is really important, moving yourself forward. And if you decide to listen to something to improve your life while doing so, like I did, all the power to you.
Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
