What Is Really Important?

Hi Everyone,

Life is filled with all kinds of temptations. This is what I mean.

For anyone who doesn’t know I have very little time. In fact, I am what people call time-poor and I blogged about this late last year. Things haven’t really changed since then.

If you weren’t there to conceive me, if I didn’t give birth to you or if I am not working on something with you, don’t expect me to answer the phone, text you or email you when I am in the middle of doing something. If that sounds harsh, so be it. A lot of people do the above, they just don’t say it. Besides, it is the only way I can get things done. My phone does not control me.

If I am running late, or if I don’t think I will have enough time to get through as much of my to-do list as I want by a certain time in the day that I decided on, eating breakfast, lunch or dinner happens not when I am hungry but when I have time. I am very grateful for protein and power bars. Although I will say that I do try to eat something for breakfast as often as possible even if it after12pm—like today. Yep!

Yesterday, I actually turned off the TV between 11am to 12 pm while I was writing because I really needed to focus. I didn’t reply to any text messages until after noon when I had scheduled myself time to eat, put on my makeup and watch the news. For anyone who is wondering my TV is on a lot of the time I am at home. It is on right now as I am writing this blog. I am serious.

Almost all of my first and sometimes second drafts are written with the TV on in the background. I could be watching or listening to a talk show, a documentary, a TV show, movie or listening to a commentary, it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that it relaxes me enough to get my work rolling or done. And that is what is really important.

Even though the weather was pretty crummy yesterday, I still got out there, and got everything on my to-do list done. I wasn’t always happy about it, but I scheduled all of those things days ago. If I didn’t get them done then, then when? My life does not stop because of the weather. If I need to get something done, I do it.

I turn down invitations for free beers, going to the movies or simply hanging out so I can get ahead. Sometimes life is work. I am okay with that and thankfully I have a lot of other time-poor people in my life who are okay with it too. Then there are people in my life who aren’t time-poor who understand me so that is great.

Once you set a boundary for the people and things in your life that are really important, people tend to respect you.

Time is so precious. Don’t waste it. Invest in yourself. The people you love will love you for it. All you have to do is decide what is really important.

Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant!   ;D

For anyone who is interested, I turned off my TV to do the final edit of this blog. And I will not be watching one of my favourtie shows because, well, things need to get done.   ;D
