“Yea, That’s Right, That’s Stealing.”

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday as I was speaking with someone, they were telling me how some of their co-workers don’t work all the hours they are paid for. They said, “And you know, that’s stealing.” After they finished I agreed with them by saying, “Yea, that’s right, that’s stealing.”

Since I would feel uncomfortable describing their situation, I will use one from my own life, that I told them.

Years ago when I worked in a retail environment there was one woman in particular who was NEVER and I mean NEVER where she was supposed to be. Since part of her income depended on my sales via commission she would get really angry when I couldn’t “entertain” customers until she came back from her 30 plus minute bathroom break to ring in the sale and collect her (unearned) commission.

She would even get to the point of holding a grudge with me. I am serious.  And then, AND THEN she would go for break! Her employee breaks, (I was a contract demonstrator) were, well, let’s just say REALLY and I mean, REALLY LOOONG!

According to her, I was mean and picking on her anytime I asked her how long she would be gone. She was quite the sales person. When she was anywhere to be seen, she did her job while she threw me under the bus every chance she could. She had it all figured out and everyone was eating out of the palms of both of her hands.  Why?

Well, if someone didn’t agree with her, she would stop promoting their products and throw them under the bus too. Since everyone’s hours heavily relied on the amount of sales one could generate everyone else just let her “do her thing.” Because I refused to buy into the, “poor me, Anna is picking on me,” sales pitch, which everyone was buying, I was not one of her favourite people.

The ONLY time she ever sold one of the products I represented was when someone specifically asked for it. That by the way was not part of her job description. She was PAID TO REPRESENT what I promoted and she was very generously compensated for that whether she did her job or not. She clearly did not do her job. Let’s fast forward a few years when I am working for another company at another store.

Anytime I am near the store I formerly worked at I stop in for a visit avoiding her like the plague I might add. Just so you know the feeling is mutual. She (still) avoids me too. I don’t go there to visit her, I go to visit the people who actually work  for their pay.

So where is she now? Well after the store acquired some new management, she was, DRASTICALLY and I mean, DRASTICALLY demoted to part time with no commission instead of her full time commission job. I have also noticed some physical differences which most would not consider flattering.

Do I feel sorry for her? Kind of. I tried to get her to understand the work ethic she was so clearly lacking yet she knew better. It like the old saying goes, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink.” Or as I like to say, “You can tell someone something, but you can’t make them think!” If that sounds familiar, I posted a blog with that title. Here’s the link, http://arebelsrant.com/you-cant-make-them-think/

On the lighter side, one could always think of what @ThatsSarcasm says which is, “Karma has no menu. You get served what you deserve!”

Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant! ;D
