Hi Everyone,
Before I begin today’s blog I would just like to say that Toy Mountain would like to reach at least 150,000 toys. According to last night’s update, they had 120, 677 toys and counting. Today is the last day to donate an unwrapped toy or money. There are other organizations collecting toys too. Just stop by your local fire department. Just saying ;D Here is today’s blog.
With Christmas deals come Christmas steals! Retailers are pulling out all of the shopping stops to get our shopping dollars in their registers. They don’t seem to care if it is at their bricks and mortar or online. Some retailers have already started promoting their Boxing Day or Week sales. It is just another way to keep us wanting more for less.
As someone who hates shopping I will admit I have done some impulse shopping this week. The first day was on Wednesday. After my short visit to the library I went to the mall. There I went to the bookstore, which is looking less than a bookstore every year, and headed to the remainders section. That’s the section where books are drastically discounted. I love this section because I have found hard covers selling for less than the same title in paperback.
Once I found two books, I passed a woman in one of the busy aisles. She had four books and I asked her if the bookstore had their buy 3 get the fourth free promotion. She didn’t know, so I asked a busy clerk. The clerk said the promotion was not on, but if they had one this weekend, I could simply bring in my receipt and get the deal. I don’t need any more books. In fact I didn’t need the two I was ready to buy. Seeing the woman I spoke to earlier I relayed the offer. She was grateful. Although I will say her daughter looked at us with suspicion. I chalked up the strange looks to, Stranger Danger, and the fact that no one talks to anyone any more.
In line I stood behind an older couple. We began speaking with each other. That’s when I noticed the man looked liked Santa Claus. I am serious. He really did. A few seconds later he told me that little children approach him all the time requesting gifts. He told me he politely plays the part until their parents pull them away. He also said that he has trimmed his beard and stopped wearing red. It hasn’t helped much.
Yesterday I thought I better get some groceries before the winter storm the weather man has been warning us about for the last few days. On my way home, I noticed a wallet on the ground. A man was standing within feet of it and I asked him if it was his. It wasn’t but he said it might belong to one of his employees, was there ID he asked. There was. A bank, health and a library card were the ones I noted. The man wanted to know the name on the ID. I made it clear that I was not going to disclose that to him.
Unhappy with my decision, off we went to find a security officer who worked for the mall, not the company he represented. The security officer was pleasantly surprised. He took my name, asked where I found it and if I knew what time. I did. During our conversation, I mentioned that the man who accompanied me saw me open the wallet and count the money. Everything was just the way I found it, money and all. The mall security officer noted that too.
My experiences with impulse shopping are unusual at best. And I have to admit, even though shopping, and impulse shopping aren’t really my thing, I am glad I did.
The local paper states that the library will be closed until tomorrow morning due to a bed bug sighting. In October the library had a bed bug sniffing dog to inspect the premises. Although the bed bug sighting was on the second floor, the children department was not accessible.
