Book and Miniseries: Truth Be Told

Hi Everyone,

Last week I finished reading an awesome book and I highly recommend it. This is why.

The original title for Kathleen Barber’s, Truth Be Told, is, Are You Sleeping, and I could not put it down. It is that good. The change of the title makes sense. This is a layered novel.  Lies, self-preservation and the multiple plot twists kept me wondering just who to believe and why. J.T. Ellison, New York Times Bestselling COAUTHOR of The Devil’s Triangle, says it best with the following review.

“I was completely hooked from the very first page. Layers of deceit, family drama, a murdered father, a distrubed mother, mayhem, cults, lies, betrayals, and a possibly deranged podcaster–this story has it all. Lanie and Josie are Janus twins, and their twisting lives left me breathless. Who to trust? Who to believe? Barber is a fabulous new author to watch. If you like twisty psychological thrillers, this is your book.”

After a quick online search I discovered that there are three episodes and all three have aired. The series premiered on December 6, 2019 and Truth Be Told, can be found on Apple TV+.  Although it would appear that the miniseries is not a direct adaptation. For instance in the book, Poppy Parnell, the podcaster, does not have a husband, a father, an older or a younger sister or a former detective and long time friend. Not only do Josie and Lanie Buhrman, the twins, thereby main characters in the book, no longer have husbands, or a cousin named Ellen, Lanie also does not seem to have a daughter. There are some other differences that stray from the book yet I will let you discover them if you wish.

Just for the record, it always bothers me when someone decides to drastically change the story I loved in the book. I get that there are times when some changes need to be made to caterer to the audience. But this time I think they went too far. Then again, maybe I should watch the miniseries first. Just saying.   ;D

Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant!   ;D
