Do You Listen To Audiobooks?

Hi Everyone,

If you don’t already listen to audiobooks maybe you should. This is why.

Almost every successful business person reads every day. Bill Gates reads for over an hour a day. Another super rich person has read no less than 2 hours a day for the past 15 years. Reading has proven to be one way of separating the rich from the poor because reading is considered a habit, ritual of the rich. But let’s face it, not everyone has time to read, or read as much as they would like.

Reading has been such a large part of my life that I read aloud for at least 20 minutes every night I could while I was pregnant. I am serious. It is no mystery to me, or my daughter, as to why she is an avid reader, and why she listens to audiobooks. When I have a bit of time I love listening to a book! If I want to hear something again, I just rewind the book 30 seconds or more. Anytime my phone rings the audiobook pauses until I hang up.

Reading opens doors, gives us a better perspective on the bigger picture. If you can’t read, listen to an audiobook. You will learn something—I guarantee it. The University of California says that listening to educational audio programs can equal a university degree. If you read fiction for about an hour before bed you will sleep well too. When you can’t find less than 20 minutes in your day to educate yourself you don’t control your time.

If you are in a bit of a financial pinch or just pinching pennies, go to the library. Every library in Ontario, has a wide selection of audiobooks. Provided you have a library card, you can borrow them on CD and use your DVD player to listen to them or download them for free. Some libraries allow their card holders to withdraw up to 50 items! I know a few people who borrow audiobooks from the library to get a feel for an author, or a book. If they think it is worth their while, they buy. And on the off chance the library doesn’t have the audiobook you would like to borrow, ask them to buy it for their collection.

I can’t go a day without reading. It is who I am. For anyone who isn’t convinced that audiobooks or reading enhances our lives then you are on  your own. I just know what works for me.

Thank you for reading, A. Rebel’s Rant!  ;D
