Do You Know What You’re Signing Up For?

Hi Everyone,

Years ago I watched an interview with Dolly Parton. It, like her, was fabulous! In fact, that interview changed my life forever. This is what I mean.

In the interview, the interviewer asked Dolly Parton if it was true that she never complained, (not even once) of the heat during the filming of, Steel Magnolias because it was very hot. Dolly Parton replied that yes in fact it was true. She had never complained about the heat. Her reason for not complaining of the heat, while the other members of the cast did, was that she wanted to be there. That translates into she knew what she was signing up for and she was not going to complain about it. For anyone who doesn’t know, I posted a blog called, Never Complain. Never Explain. Here’s the link, http://arebelsrant.com/never-complain-never-explain/ Here is where this blog is going.

From the moment I heard Dolly Parton’s WISE words I always very carefully weigh the pro and cons of any and everything before I make a decision. I also prepare for any and everything that may go wrong. I check the weather forecast. I dress appropriately. I pack my bag(s) for whatever I think I may need to keep me as comfortable as possible. AND that is exactly what I did the other day.

I don’t know what the temperature is like where you live, but it’s HOT, VERY HOT, in Southern Ontario. So when I decided to go into the BIGGER city I knew it was going to hotter there than where I live. Cities in the summer are concrete jungles! All of that asphalt attracting heat is literally trapped by the skyscrapers constricting air circulation.  The only way for me to (try to) beat the heat, was to wear a short, light weight dress that was breezy. After I took a last look before leaving, I noticed that I needed a tank top. I didn’t want to be that breezy! The extra layer was going to make me extra hot. I could have changed into something else but my bag was already packed.

Since the weather report said there was a 70% chance of a thunderstorm my umbrella was tucked at the bottom of my bag. I packed a plastic bag to put my book in, if by chance we had the dreaded down pour. For the heat, I packed a small bottle of water, drink in the boxes and snacks. Loose writing paper and writing utensils were also in my bag among the other things I always bring with me. My thinking that day was, and always is, “IF I forget something, don’t know where I’m going or have an issue because I wasn’t prepared, IT’S MY OWN DAMN FAULT!!! Shut up, and deal with it!” In other words, never complain, never explain. Everyone else has their own life to deal with, that’s why I have to deal with mine! I decided to go into the city, or that’s what I signed up for.

Later that day, when I felt a blister, I reached into my bag, pulled out a cotton swab and toner, cleaned it and put a band aid on it. That is of course, after I decided what size band aid I would need.  I had several sizes. While I stood in line at a fast food restaurant, I grabbed my loose papers and fanned myself. Interestingly the people in line behind me did the same with newspapers or books. When my brow was moist I dabbed it with a napkin. I was prepared for anything because I was prepared for everything! I knew it was going to be HOT!!! Or, I knew what I was signing up for! Do you? If not, don’t complain about it. It’s your own DAMN FAULT!!!
